Inner City

Just because you live in a small space doesn’t mean you need to compromise on style.

Good things come in small packages and the FD Team can help you add real personality to your apartment, terrace, semi or townhouse by selecting the right furniture and accessories.

There are many design ideas you can use to make your space feel larger.  A room feels perfect when you get the proportions just right.

Just like long black pants can make someone who is shorter appear taller, scale in your cabinets and curtains will really assist to “upscale”.  Similarly, a larger sofa in a long narrow lounge room will aid with balance in the space.

Soft tones will make your room feel brighter and larger.  Mirrors are a great way to keep the area more open and bright.

It can also help to bring the outside in and make the space lighter.

Your colour palette should light.  Think crisp whites and gorgeous neutrals with loads of texture.

If you love nothing more than to walk to work, eating out at great restaurants without having to worry about driving after a few glasses of wine and never having to mow the lawn on weekends, this is the style for you!

We hope you enjoy a few of these ideas.  We are only a call, live chat or email away if you need any help at all.

Idea 1 – Small Spaces Dining

Just because you live in a small space, doesn’t mean you don’t love to entertain.

There’s nothing better than a flexible extension dining table that can be kept small

for everyday and when guests drop around it can seat everyone in comfort and style.

Like a little black dress, a well designed dining table will allow you to dress it up or dress it down.

Choosing the right dining chair for your style is the secret here.

Additional dining chairs can be stored beside a console or

in bedrooms and can be brought forward when entertaining.

Add a larger mirror as a statement piece and also to make the space feel larger and you have the perfect room.

Idea 2 – Small Spaces Living Rooms

Choosing the right sofa for your space can also assist in the balance of your room.

A sofa with smaller arms and pencil or box back cushions can really fit the bill here.

Coffee tables don’t necessarily need to be small.  It will really depend on how you use the space.

If your living room is a thoroughfare, you may want it to be more open.

If this is the case, you can use two side tables as coffee tables which works really well.

If you want your room to be more cosy and intimite,

then a coffee table that is just a little smaller than the length of your sofa is just the piece.

The addition of a cabinet can really work well here.  Not only will it look great in your room but it will add fabulous storage.

We have a great range of custom pieces that can be made to meaure to fit perfectly in your space.

Idea 3 – Small Spaces Bedrooms

There’s no need to compromise on style in your bedroom.

Your bedroom is a sanctuary, a place you can escape the stresses of the everyday

and you deserve for it to be beautiful.

Upholstered bedheads can add real dimension and texture to your room,

particularly if they feature diamond buttoning.

Smaller bedsides don’t need to compromise on storage.

Choose a bedside with drawers to give you a little extra space

and allow the room to feel less cluttered by storing essentials in the drawers.

Use lighter coloured furniture and choose crisp white bedlinen with cushions

and comforters in a colour you love and don’t forget to add a rug

which will not only add another layer to your styling but will ensure

your feet love you when jumping out of bed in the morning!
